Veterinary teaching and research in relation to the sea

The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production has as its purpose the teaching and research in the fields of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production and Food Safety. Research at the Department maintains international standards: it is active, open to students and addressed to the territory. The main goals are improving the health and quality of animal life, of breeding systems and food production chain processes with particular regard to food safety. In particular for the AGRIFOOD sector it concerns the development of speculative issues and technologies concerning the production and health of foodstuffs for animals and foodstuffs to man, the rationalization of the supply chain processes using advanced technologies to the environment, to the correct management of herds, animal welfare and the transformation and conservation of herds foodstuffs. In BAPSI project UNINA will play a role in the organization of n. 2 short courses, including production of learning contents and f2f implementation, and webinars.

1 Nutritional aspects and Food safety

Intended learning outcomes:

  • To understand the role of food and nutrition in public health
  • To approach to Chemical and biological contamination in wild and farmed fish and seafoods, Zoonoses and foodborne diseases
  • To achieve an overview of HACCP system and global quality approach (i.e. ISO) in food safety and quality control (GMP GHP SSOP)
  • To understand Nutritional value of seafood

2 Sustainability in the seafood production: labelling and frauds

Intended learning outcomes:

  • To understand in-depth the fish labelling
  • To achieve an overview on the fish identification
  • To achieve an overview on the most common frauds
  • To achieve an overview on the most sustainable fishing techniques

Training will consist of online theoretical and practical sessions such as simulations, case studies, group exercises. To promote innovative, practice-oriented and integrated educational paths for professional figures, short courses, webinars, case studies, exercises, practical learning days and practical experiences will be used as training methods to reach expertises in a diverse manner keeping trainees attentive and involved. In addition, self-learning and e-learning tools will be encouraged.
