ALIF is the only non-profit Portuguese business association that represents the fish freezing industry in Portugal. The fishery sector (fishing, aquaculture, trade and prossessing) is a relevant sector in the Portuguese Economy. Processing and marketing fishery products sector in Portugal is made up of 160 enterprises and provides more than 7.000 direct employments. Of this total, ALIF is made up of 45 enterprises. In a first phase, ALIF will help to implement a one-year academy, wich will contribute to make one short-course related to the economic area of the seafood industry. ALIF will be partner, coordinated by CETMAR, in the development of the short course “3. Value chain of Fish and Fisheries products”, namely in the sub thematic area Valorization of by-products. ALIF will have the task to prepare the learning contents regarding this sub thematic area. This is the first role of ALIF in the project. In second place, ALIF will be responsible for organize 1 practical learning day in Portugal that will include a visit to practical laboratory and visit to industry company. Then, for the pratical experience, ALIF will use the networks of their associated companies to encourage companies to involve in one of the three alternatives that practical experience have (1. an apprenticeship, 2. “Alongside the manager” and 3. “Exchange visits”). ALIF will be responsible of finding and conduct agreements with hosting organizations for 10 practical experiences to be offered in Portugal. For the students, ALIF will also organize a field visit for high school kids in Portugal.
